About the Department Of Physics

In the year 1988 the Department of Physics was started to teach Physics in only Allied level with one teaching staff and one non-teaching staff. Both members are Government - aided staffs.

After a period of 11 years, in 1999 Major physics was introduced in the main stream. First commission member was Dr.V.Parthasarathy, Department of Physics, Bharathidasan University, Tiruchirapalli. The students were admitted till the academic year 2009. In the academic year 2009 to 2012, one student by name T. Sathiya achieved 10th position in university rank fromourdepartment. After a gap of 5 years, in 2004 we started the post- graduate course, Master of Science in Physics. The commission memberwas Dr.M.Lakshmanan, Head of the Department, Department of Physics, Bharathidasan University, Tiruchirapalli. Though each and every year our students achieved high ranks in the university level. There was very megre admission in the department, because of lack of awareness for this course as the surrounding areas was agricultural based. Eventually, the students were admitted till the academic year 2009. During the years 2006 to 2011, there were six university rank holders in the department. At present the department teaches Physics only at Allied and Applied levels for Chemistry and Computer science stream students.

The department aim to increase the visibility of physics and its importance which emphasize interdisciplinary collaboration leads to the development of innovative solutions.
